二氧化碳滅火劑是以液態(tài)的形式加壓充裝在滅火器中,由于二氧化碳的平衡蒸汽壓高,瓶閥一打開,液體立即通過虹吸管、導(dǎo)管和噴嘴并經(jīng)過噴筒噴出,液態(tài)的二氧化碳迅速汽化,并從周圍空氣中吸收大量的熱,(1千克液態(tài)二氧化碳氣化時需要578KJ熱量)但由于噴筒隔絕了對外界的熱傳導(dǎo),因此二氧化碳液態(tài)氣化時,只能吸收自身的熱量。導(dǎo)致液體本身溫度急劇降低,當(dāng)其溫度下降到零下78.5攝氏度(升華點)時,就有細小的雪花狀二氧化碳固體出現(xiàn)。所以以滅火劑噴射出來的是溫度很低的氣體和固體的二氧化碳,盡管二氧化碳溫度很低,對燃燒物有一定的冷卻作用,然而這種作用遠不足以撲滅火焰。
它的滅火作用主要是增加空氣中不燃燒、不助燃的成分,使空氣中的氧氣含量減少,實驗表明:燃燒區(qū)域空氣中氧氣的濃度小于等于百分之十二,二氧化碳的濃度為百分之三十到百分之三十五時,絕大多數(shù)的燃燒都會熄滅。
